How to Get ₹78,000 Free from the Govt for Solar in Surat

Living in Surat, we know two things for sure: the food is amazing, and the summers are hot. That heat usually means running ACs all day and dealing with massive electricity bills.

But what if you could turn that Surat sun into free electricity? And what if the government gave you ₹78,000 to help you do it?

This is now possible under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. If you are a homeowner in Surat (using DGVCL or Torrent Power), here is exactly how you can claim this subsidy and say goodbye to electricity bills.

1. How Much Money Will You Get?

The government has simplified the calculation. The subsidy goes directly into your bank account. Here is the breakdown:

Your Solar System SizeGovt Subsidy Amount
1 kW₹30,000
2 kW₹60,000
3 kW and above₹78,000 (Fixed)

Note for Surtis: Most homes in Surat need a 3kW to 5kW system to run ACs and fridges comfortably. This means you will likely qualify for the maximum ₹78,000 subsidy.

2. Who is Eligible?

  • You must be an Indian citizen.
  • You must own the house (residential property).
  • You must have a valid electricity connection (Torrent Power or DGVCL).
  • You must not have claimed a solar subsidy before.

3. The 6 Steps to Claim Your Subsidy in Surat

You do not need to visit any government office. The entire process is online.

Step 1: Registration

Go to the official portal: pmsuryaghar.gov.in.

  • Select “Gujarat” as your state.
  • Select your Electricity Distribution Company. In Surat, check your bill; it will likely be Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (DGVCL) or Torrent Power Limited.
  • Enter your Consumer Number (found on your light bill), Mobile Number, and Email.

Step 2: Apply for Rooftop Solar

Once registered, log in with your mobile number. Fill out the application form with your address and the capacity of the solar plant you want (e.g., 3kW).

Step 3: Feasibility Approval

Your DISCOM (Torrent or DGVCL) will check if your local transformer can handle the load. This usually takes a few days. You will get an approval notification online.

Step 4: Installation

This is the most important step. You must choose a registered vendor.

  • Do not just hire a local electrician. On the portal, you will see a list of “Empanelled Vendors” for Surat.
  • Contact them, negotiate the price, and get the solar panels installed.
  • This is where Heaven Solar comes in. As Surat’s most trusted Solar EPC, we have successfully installed over 5000 solar power plants across the Surat city. We ensure your panels are not just installed safely, but are optimised for the highest possible generation efficiency.”

Step 5: Net Metering

Once the panels are on your roof, the vendor will inform the DISCOM. A Torrent Power or DGVCL official will come to your house to install a “Net Meter”.

  • What is a Net Meter? It counts the electricity you give back to the government.

Step 6: Get Your Money!

After the net meter is installed, the DISCOM official will approve the system online. You will receive a “Commissioning Certificate.”

  • Log back into the portal.
  • Upload a copy of a cancelled cheque (so they know your bank account details).
  • Within 30 days, the ₹78,000 subsidy will be transferred to your bank account!

Documents You Will Need

Keep these ready before you start:

  1. Latest Electricity Bill (Torrent Power or DGVCL).
  2. Aadhaar Card.
  3. Proof of Roof Ownership (Property tax receipt or Index-2).
  4. Bank Passbook or Cancelled Cheque.
